Get Organized
Buy a binder, plastic file box, or accordion file where you can put all your wedding ideas and inspirations - magazine articles, computer printouts, notes, pictures, fabric swatches etc.
Book Early!
Book vendors as early as you can. The best people are booked first, sometime up to a year in advance.
Outdoor Wedding
If you are planning a wedding outdoors, no matter what season, always make sure to have a back up location in case of bad weather!
Write Your Own Vows
Do you want to personalise your ceremony? Write your own vows and make your promise to each other in your own words.
Make Sure The Shoe Fits
Wear your wedding shoes around the house before the big day to wear them in and make sure they are comfortable on the day.
Music Makes the Mood
Music is a great way to get a wedding theme across. Use songs from your school days (70's, 80's, or 90's) or choose a favourite type of music such as Jazz, Baroque or R&B.
Budget
Most couples go over budget. Allow at least 10-15 percent of your total budget to unforseen costs.
Money Saver - Musicians
Hire the regular musicians at the church to avoid the high cost of hiring professional musicians or go with a DJ.
Make sure you'll meet the count
Don't guarantee a minimum number of guests unless you're sure you'll meet it. Otherwise, you'll pay for 200 guests, even if only 180 show up.
Attendants
Let your attendants know exactly what you expect them to do for you - make them work but do not forget to thank them as well!
Light up the night
Candles make great inexpensive centerpieces, experiment with a few small candles on a mirror or a group of candles in different sizes in the centre of the table.
Memory Book
Ask guests (or appoint your maid of honour / best man) to make a memory page with a picture of themselves with you, a favourite recipe or marriage advice and stick it in an album.
Staying Spotless
Ask the bridal salon where your dress is from for quick cleaning advice for the fabric your gown is made of. A wedding day spill will be less of an emergency!
Photographer/ Videographers
Make sure to tell your photographer/ videographer to dress appropriately on the day. You do not want them in jeans when all your guests are in black tie and long gowns. You want them to blend in with the crowd.
Alternative Cake Toppers
- Mini Flags from your Home Country - Sparklers - Fresh Flowers - Candles
Don't Forget To Tip
It is customary to tip banqueting staff, florists, band members, drivers and anyone else who makes a special effort to make your day perfect. Prepare envelopes before hand and let the best man / maid of honour take care of it on the day.
